Caltrans / Web Accessibility and Content Governance

Managing accessible, compliant web systems at the scale and operational complexity of a California state agency.

Overview

State agency web content serves Californians who depend on accurate, accessible information. Maintaining quality across a division with many contributors requires consistency and technical standards.

My Role

Web and Digital Compliance Analyst, Division of Planning and Modal Programs

I led a full end-to-end redesign of the public-facing pages for the Division of Rail. Rather than starting with aesthetics, I started with structure and auditing existing content. I coordinated across teams to figure out what was missing or outdated and built reusable Sitecore components so that future contributors wouldn’t have to reinvent the page structure each time. The goal was a system.

Outcome

This project is an accumulation of how I worked as an accessibility and content systems owner in a large state agency and held standards across a whole division’s output. In an earlier role at Caltrans, I built accessible, interactive forms with JavaScript logic. This is where I picked up my foundation for accessibility, which I now carry through every project after.
